The BFA1 VHF COM antenna has been specifically designed for compatibility with portable, battery-operated airband transceivers used on gas and hot-air balloons. Remember, the performance of your radio is highly dependent on the quality of its antenna!
On balloons, portable COM radios typically come with either rod antennas or compact "rubber duck" antennas. However, these types of antennas often suffer from limited range due to inefficient matching and poor overall efficiency. Their performance can also be negatively impacted by the presence of gas cylinders or people in close proximity. When transmitting power exceeds 1 Watt, these smaller antennas can produce very strong electromagnetic fields nearby. In certain situations, this can lead to the risk of sparking and potential harm to individuals nearby.
Features:
• No degradation or mismatch due to rain, ice, large metal objects or persons nearby
• No hazardous radiation to human bodies due to large effective antenna area
• No risk of injury due to flexible design.
• Easy to fix by 6 loops, easy to keep - almost a towel
• A durable nylon cloth completely encloses the carefully designed radiating elements to ensure long dependable service in all climates
