The KAP-2 is an interface kit for Kenwood mobile radios to allow certain accessory functions out of the rear of the radio via a “pigtail” cable. It is required to connect the KES-5A external speaker through the rear panel of the radio. It contains a small relay circuit board, and some wiring and connectors. For use with: External speaker (such as KES-5A) at rear of the radio Interfacing a police vehicle’s Public Address system – provides relay control and audio Output of Horn Alert (can be used with unit call feature for fire stations/fire engines, for example). Other 3rd party accessories needing the audio and control pins at the rear of the radio (special headset interfaces, etc). It has a jumper setting for selecting the routing of audio (Internal or External Audio). If set to Internal, audio is routed through the speaker jack on the back of the radio. If set to external, audio is routed through the KAP-2 board pigtail. It is a common accessory for multi-deck decks (included by default in the high-power VHF & Low band) if individual deck audio is desired.
