Rated intrinsically safe HX381has a rugged polycarbonate case will take some really rough handling. And when you combine a case like that with durable  electronics and an extraordinary sealing system, you get a radio nearly impervious to shock, vibration, dust, dirt and weather, not to mention moist air or aggressive chemical-laden atmospheres. It’s rated intrinsically safe for hazardous environments and meets or exceeds all the specifications for MIL STD 810C, D and E.

16-channel capability in either VHF or UHF Designed for either VHF or UHF, the HX381 gives you the flexibility of 16-channel operation combined with a variety of signaling formats, including CTCSS, DCS, Burst Tone, Two-Tone and Five/Six Tone. It’s power-down feature lets you select between full power - five watts for VHF, four watts for UHF - and a low-power two watts for on-site applications.

If you’re using several HX381s, you’ll appreciate that they’re all cloneable and field-programmable, with a non-volatile memory to keep track of stored frequencies without a battery backup.

Programmable scanning and a variety of signaling formats For all its rugged appeal, the HX381 has plenty of sophisticated features. For example, a programmable Sleep Mode extends battery life, a Time Out Timer limits transmission length, and the Busy Channel Lockout prevents you from transmitting on a channel already in use. Three function keys on the side of the HX381 can be programmed for one-button access to the operating modes you use most. A Low Battery Indicator tells you when it’s time to charge your battery. And you can get an HX381 with internal or external squelch control.

The HX381 makes scanning easier, too, with selectable scan modes including Priority or Non-Priority Memory Scan.
